As we get closer to our sailing date, it’s time for some details and prep. Please carefully review the following as we have a lot of information, tips, and resources. It’s not too often that you can enjoy learning the ukulele and cruising to Hawaii at the same time. Well… ukulele.io is proud to bring you our very own Jenny Peters to accompany you for a fun-filled immersion cultural experience to the Hawaiian Islands.
We’ve selected Princess Cruises to give you the best on board entertainment, meals, and relaxation, and have partnered with them to get you the best prices!
With 10 days at sea, Jenny will be conducting classes and group playing for 2 hours in the morning for a total of 20 hours of instruction and practice. You have time to practice on your own or in groups, during the afternoons. (See below for additional details on the course.)

About Jenny Peters – Your Guest Instructor on the Cruise
Jenny Peters is a well-regarded composer, conductor, and clinician in the Chicago area. She has taught thousands of beginners on a variety of instruments during her many years of teaching. Jenny developed her unique beginner-friendly method of teaching ukulele when she learned to play to include ukulele to her fourth grade General Music classes.
The Illinois Music Educators Association has invited Jenny to do presentations on how to teach ukulele, and she has written articles on the subject for the magazine of the Illinois chapter of the American String Teachers Association. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NaFME), the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP).
Jenny has served on the faculties of Lake Forest College and the College of Lake County. She taught piano, violin and chamber music at the Music Institute of Chicago and the Lake Forest Music Institute. She holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois and Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Washington. She earned her teacher’s certification from Trinity International University to share her passion for music with students of diverse backgrounds.
Jenny plays many other instruments besides ukulele: piano, violin, viola, guitar, bass and mandolin.

What to Bring
At a minimum, plan on bringing the following with you:

- Ukulele
- Two books that Jenny will use in instruction (see below)
- Please print out a copy of the sheet music – “Ukulele Songbook – Hawaiian Cruise with Jenny” – and brin
g it with you. The songbook will be emailed to cruisers so please reach out to lala@ukulele.io if you’re part of the cruise and you did not get the email. - Collapsible music stand (for books and sheet music)
- Tuner (optional)

On the Cruise

The ukulele classes will be held in a private room during the cruise. Jenny will conduct the class for 2 hours every morning (except for on shore days). Non-ukulele companions of those playing the ukulele are welcome to attend the classes as spectators. At the end of the cruise, all members of Jenny’s ukulele group are invited to join in a fun performance on stage that will be open to the public on the cruise.
If playing with others makes you anxious, we hope that our tips before playing in a group and how to play well in a uke group will help—also on our free cruise resources page.
Expect you might need additional coaching? Jenny will hold limited one-on-one coaching sessions on the cruise. Contact her on the cruise for rates, availability, times. For cruisers, we’ve discounted all our books (PDF).
All classes will be recorded and made available (for 6 months) to all participants. Please sign the video release form (PDF) and email a scanned copy or photo using your phone, to lala@ukulele.io.
